Introducing Selenra
A consumer software company making focused apps for money, rest, and memory — and the reasons we're building it this way.
Most of the software we rely on every day was not built for us. It was built for the people who pay for our attention: advertisers, data brokers, growth targets. You can feel it in the badges that won't clear, the settings buried three menus deep, the "free" plans that quietly become less useful every year.
Selenra exists to make the opposite kind of software.
What we're making
We are starting with three apps, each built around one part of ordinary life that deserves better tools:
- Perigee, for personal finance — a calm, honest picture of your money, with no product placement.
- Nocturne, for sleep and focus — soundscapes and routines that help, then get out of the way.
- Almanac, for journaling — end-to-end encrypted, and stored in formats you can open in any decade.
They are separate products, each with its own subscription, because they solve separate problems. What they share is a standard.
The standard
Every Selenra app has to meet four commitments before it ships:
- Private by default. Your data is never the product. No ads, no trackers, no resale.
- Fairly priced. One clear subscription. Easy to start, easy to cancel.
- Built to last. Offline-first where it matters, with exports in open formats.
- Focused by design. One job, done properly — no feature sprawl.
None of these are novel. They are simply hard to keep once a company starts optimising for engagement. So we've written them down, and we intend to be held to them.
Why the Moon
The name comes from Selene, the Moon in Greek myth. We like what the Moon stands for: constant, quiet, there when you look up and never demanding that you do. That's the relationship we want people to have with our software.
What happens next
All three apps are in development. We'll share progress here in the journal — design decisions, trade-offs, and what we learn along the way. If you'd like to know when early access opens, you can leave your email on any product page. We'll write once, when there's something to try.
Thank you for reading. We're glad you're here.
